Stamkos sends Lightning past Panthers in OT

Steven Stamkos scored 2:29 into overtime on the 1 win over Florida in a Southeastern Division battle.

Dmitry Kulikov was sent to the box for interference 48 seconds in and the Lightning power play went to work.

From the high slot, Martin St. Louis held the puck before sliding it over to the left circle where Stamkos one-timed it over the glove of Jose Theodore.

Vinny Lecavalier scored the other goal for the Lightning, who had dropped four of five coming in. Mathieu Garon stopped 23 shots.

Tomas Fleischmann scored the lone goal while Theodore made 29 saves for the Panthers, who had a three-game winning streak stopped.

These two squads will meet in Tampa Bay on Saturday.

After a scoreless opening period, the Panthers took a 1-0 lead with a 2-on-2 play that saw Stephen Weiss send a pass from the left wing over to the right and Fleishcmann wrist it home at the 12:38 mark.

However, Tampa tied the game 8:59 into the third when Lecavalier fired a shot on net from the slot that Theodore stopped, but he followed it up and his second whack at the puck went in.
