(SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs got to witness quite a show last time out, but they'll try and get back into the win column Sunday night when the Minnesota Timberwolves travel to AT&T Center.
The Spurs had their six-game winning streak snapped Thursday night when Kyrie Irving turned into Superman. Irving went for 57 in the Cleveland Cavaliers' 128-125 overtime victory in San Antonio.
Irving scored Cleveland's last nine points of regulation, including a game- tying 3-pointer at the fourth-quarter buzzer. He then added 11 points in the extra session to help the Cavs snap a 10-game losing streak against the defending-champion Spurs.
Irving, who netted a previous career-high of 55 points less than two months ago against the Portland Trail Blazers, knocked down all seven of his shots from beyond the arc, was a perfect 10-of-10 from the foul line and finished 20-of-32 from the field.
"Kyrie Irving was unstoppable. I don't know how to guard that," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said.
Irving's 57 points were the most points ever scored by a Spurs' visiting player.
Tony Parker led the hosts with 31 points, followed by 24 apiece from Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. Leonard added nine rebounds and seven assists, while Green went 5-for-10 from long range.
Tim Duncan had a big night with 18 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and four blocked shots.
The Spurs travel to New York on Tuesday, then visit Milwaukee on Wednesday.
The Timberwolves have dropped three in a row and seven of their last eight. Minnesota has lost five consecutive road contests and its road trip ends Sunday.
On Friday, the T-wolves were the latest victims of Russell Westbrook as the All-Star MVP notched another triple-double en route to a 113-99 win for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Westbrook recorded his eighth triple-double of the season with 29 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds to lead OKC.
Gorgui Dieng led the Timberwolves with 21 points and 14 rebounds and Andrew Wiggins added 19 points and five boards.
Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic missed the game with a bum ankle and point guard Ricky Rubio played four minutes into the second half before exiting with an ankle injury.
"We just need to stick together. The injuries hurt us, but you just need to keep playing through it," Dieng said.
The Spurs won all three meetings this season between the two teams. San Antonio has taken three in a row and is 19-1 in its last 20 as the host in this series. Minnesota has only one victory in San Antonio over the last 11 years.
