(SportsNetwork.com) - San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili apparently played through a stress fracture in his lower right fibula during the team's drive toward the NBA title.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, Ginobili confirmed the injury at a press conference in his native Argentina on Friday morning as part of the Spurs' championship trophy tour.
Ginobili also said he still hopes to play for his country at the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. The tournament starts in late August.
"My participation depends on how I improve," Ginobili wrote on his Facebook page earlier this week without disclosing the injury. "I remain optimistic."
Ginobili averaged 14.3 points and 4.1 assists in 23 playoff games this spring, and helped the Spurs beat the Miami Heat in five games in the NBA Finals to capture San Antonio's fifth NBA title.
