Sporting Kansas City forward Teal Bunbury suffered a torn ACL in his left knee Sunday and will miss the rest of the MLS season.
Bunbury, 22, sustained the injury in the fourth minute of a 1-1 draw against Red Bull New York. He also suffered a damaged LCL in the collision with New York goalie Bill Gaudette. Bunbury assisted on a Kei Kamara goal on the play.
Capped four times for the United States, Bunbury has 19 goals and six assists in 77 career regular-season matches. He scored a career high nine goals last season, and had five goals and one assist this year.
Bunbury will have surgery Friday and is expected to miss six to eight months.
Sporting hosts Toronto FC on Saturday in its next match.
