Alcorn State is expected to make a decision on Melvin Spears' future as head football coach after the holidays.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference university has put Spears on administrative leave after his first season, a disappointing 2-8 campaign.
The Clarion Ledger reported Tuesday that the 51-year-old Spears said, "Based on what they're talking about, I'm being terminated for insubordination or something." The newspaper added Alcorn State would owe Spears about $260,000 for the final two years of his contract if he is fired without cause.
Alcorn State has had four head coaches in the last five seasons.
