BATON ROUGE, La. – Julius Ingram scored a clutch layup with 27 seconds left as Southern rallied for a 51-48 victory over Prairie View on Thursday night.
The Jaguars (2-12, 1-1 Southwest Athletic Conference) trailed for the first 14 minutes of the second half before Brandon White tied it 43-43 on a 3-pointer with 5:30 to go. Two minutes later, White missed a layup, but Frederick Coleman tipped it in to give Southern the lead for good, 47-45 with 3:24 left.
Ingram, who had 11 points, gave the Jaguars the biggest lead of the final 3 minutes. His layup made it 50-46 with 27 seconds left.
Beloved Rogers hit a jumper with 18 seconds left for Prairie View (4-11, 1-1) to make it 50-48, but Ingram made another free throw and the Panthers missed their last bid to tie. Michael Griffin could not hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left.
Cortney Bell and Brandon Webb each scored 10 for Prairie View.
