As the Chicago Cubs' chances to hire Joe Girardi as manager seemingly diminish, here is one name to keep in mind: San Diego Padres assistant GM and former Arizona Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch.
Hinch is on the Cubs' list of possibilities, according to sources and would be a more viable candidate from the Padres than special assistant Brad Ausmus, who managed Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic in March.
Hinch, the D-backs' former farm director, has experience working with young players and as an MLB manager.
He had little chance to succeed as manager in Arizona.
