KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia – Ben Sandford of New Zealand might be the front-runner for "Worst quote about yourself at the Sochi Olympics," if such a contest existed.
Sandford is 20th after Friday's first two runs of the men's skeleton competition, more than two seconds — that really is a enormous gap in sliding — away from medal contention, and almost four seconds off the race lead.
So when asked by a reporter how he thought the day went, Sandford didn't make any excuse whatsoever.
"I'm usually pretty good at skeleton," he quipped, waiting for a half-dozen people around him to get the joke.
