Amsterdam, Netherlands – Kolbeinn Sigthorsson scored twice as minute stretch after halftime to top Vitesse on 1, at the Amsterdam ArenA in the Eredivisie.
Christian Eriksen opened the scoring eight minutes after the break, then Derk Boerrigter netted on 62 minutes. Sigthorsson scored his first in the 63rd, and scored again seven minutes later to seal Ajax's third win of the season.
Alexander Buttner scored with a minute left in normal time for Vitesse's lone goal.
Ajax moved to the top of the Eredivisie ahead of the weekend's matches, while Vitesse lost its first through four matches and remained fourth.
On Saturday, RKC Waalwijk hosts NAC, Twente hosts Venlo, NEC hosts Heracles, and Utrecht hosts Roda. On Sunday, De Graafschap hosts Den Haag, Feyenoord hosts Heerenveen, Groningen hosts AZ, and PSV Eindhoven hosts Excelsior.
