Paris, France – Maria Sharapova completed her second-round match at the French Open Friday, beating Canada's Eugenia Bouchard in straight sets.
Sharapova, the defending champion and this year's second seed, was ahead 6-2, 4-2 when darkness halted play on a rainy Thursday. She needed only a few minutes Friday to finish a 6-2, 6-4 triumph, advancing to a third-round match with China's Zheng Jie.
Russia's Maria Kirilenko and Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli also moved on with second-round wins Friday. The 12th-seeded Kirilenko blitzed Australia's Ashleigh Barty, 6-3, 6-1, while the 13th-seeded Bartoli battled past Colombia's Mariana Duque-Marino, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
Two more second-round matches need to be completed Friday and third-round action for the top half of the draw is also scheduled.
Top-seeded Serena Williams highlights the third round against Romania's Sorana Cirstea, while fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska takes on German Dinah Pfizenmaier and fifth-seeded Sara Errani meets hard-hitting German Sabine Lisicki.
