A reporter from the Terre Haute Tribune- Star tweeted Tuesday that Indiana State star running back Shakir Bell is out for the rest of the season due to a foot injury.
Todd Golden, the Indiana State beat reporter for the newspaper, originally tweeted Bell had been dismissed from the team, per Bell's personal Twitter account. But Bell's tweet has since been taken down, and ISU coach Mike Sanford told media the senior back is done for the year due to the injury. According to Golden, Sanford declined to comment on whether or not Bell was dismissed from the team.
There is no word from the Missouri Valley Conference or an official statement from Indiana State yet.
Bell, who began the season as a Walter Payton Award candidate, has battled injuries all throughout the season. On 78 carries in 2013, Bell accumulated 420 yards and one touchdown. In four years with the program, Bell rushed for 4,214 yards and 28 touchdowns. In 2011, Bell ran for 1,670 yards and 14 scores - his best season statistically.
