Seppi advances in Umag

Andreas Seppi of Italy was among Thursday's second-round winners at the Croatia Open.

The second-seeded Seppi was leading Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-1, 4-0 when the Austrian retired from the match with a lower back strain.

The Italian has reached the quarterfinals five times this year. He will next do battle with Argentine Horacio Zeballos, who took down countryman Carlos Berlocq, the No. 8 seed, by a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 margin.

Aljaz Bedene beat former champion Alexandr Dolgopolov, the No. 4 seed, by a 6-3, 6-1 score. Dolgopolov won this event in 2011.

Bedene will next play fifth-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo, who defeated Serbian Viktor Troicki, 6-0, 6-4.
