VANCOUVER, B.C. -- The newly crowned NHL scoring champion, Daniel Sedin, scored a pair of goals and added an assist while helping the Vancouver Canucks do something they haven't done in either of the last two springs – win Game 2 against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Daniel gave the Canucks a 2-0 lead 30 seconds into the second period by redirecting Christian Ehrhoff's power-play point shot for his first goal of the 2011 playoffs.
The NHL's regular-season points leader then scored what proved to be the winner at 10:06 of the third period when he dangled across the Chicago blue line and beat Corey Crawford low glove-side.
"Danny made a great shot and he played a great game tonight," said captain and twin brother Henrik Sedin. "We had two guys driving up too, Burr (Alexandre Burrows) and Hoffer (Christian Ehrhoff) came up too so they had to pay a little bit of close attention to those guys and Danny made a great shot."
Chicago's top duo of Duncan Keith and Keith Seabrook were on the ice for both of Daniel's goals and finished a combined minus-3.
"They're world-class players," Seabrook said. "The last two years each of them have led the League in scoring and arguably the best two players in the league. It's one of those things we got to focus on, trying to shut those guys down every night and tonight wasn't good enough."
Henrik and Daniel helped set up Jannik Hansen's second goal of the playoffs, the game's opening goal at 7:30 of the opening period. Daniel took a pass from Henrik and feathered a passout to Hansen, who one-timed the feed from the lower right circle past Crawford for his third career NHL playoff goal and second in two games.
"It was typical twins, they draw all the attention (on the ice) and then you've got four or five Chicago players looking their way. I kind of snuck in and you know if you're open, they're going to find a way to get you the puck on your stick."
The Sedins finished Game 2 by combining for eight shots; they were a combined plus-3.
A lot was made last spring when the Sedins were outplayed by Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews; Toews had 12 points on his own in the six-game series while Daniel and Henrik combined for 10.
Heading into Game 3 in Chicago, it's the Sedins who are on top -- Daniel and Henrik have a combined four points while Toews has yet to get his name onto the scoresheet through six periods.
"They had some great chances obviously," Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said. "I think that they wanted more from their game than in the first game and they came out and proved that they're quality players and we need them to play well and they did.
"They're great players, they're some of the best in the NHL. They tried hard and tonight they played a real strong game."
