Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin had successful hip surgery on Thursday.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll confirmed the successful procedure after practice on Thursday, but didn't have a solid timetable on when Harvin will return.

"What we have heard so far is that the surgery went very well, and that there's a long rehab process coming up," said Carroll. "We don't have any dates or timelines, but we're going to be very optimistic and hope that he gets back as soon as possible."

The Seahawks traded for Harvin in the offseason. He played just nine games last year because of a severely sprained ankle, finishing the campaign with 62 receptions for 677 yards and three scores while adding 96 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown and was leading the NFL in kick return average at 35.9 yards before his injury.

The 25-year-old Florida product has 280 career catches for 3,302 yards with 20 touchdowns and has also averaged 6.4 yards on 107 carries with four scores -- all with the Vikings. He's also returned five kickoffs for touchdowns in his four-year career.
