Schalke aims to build on Madrid result

Berlin, Germany ( - After nearly pulling off a massive upset of Real Madrid in the Champions League, Roberto Di Matteo's Schalke returns to Bundesliga play for a visit to bottom-half Hertha Berlin.

Schalke's 4-3 win at Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League knockout-round tie with the defending champions left the club just short on aggregate, but the result should instill some confidence to Di Matteo's team.

After winning just two of its last six games in Bundesliga play, Schalke has fallen out of the top four.

However, the club won 3-1 against Hoffenheim last weekend before the midweek victory in Madrid, giving the team a bit of a boost ahead of the trip to Berlin.

Hertha has taken four points from its last two games to move two points clear of the relegation places, and the club will be aiming to keep its third straight clean sheet on Saturday.

On Friday Bayer Leverkusen moved into third place following a 4-0 thrashing of Stuttgart courtesy of two goals from Josip Drmic and one apiece from Wendell and Karim Bellarabi.

Bayern Munich moved 11 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga last weekend, and following a 7-0 thrashing of Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League in midweek, the leaders return to league play with a visit to Werder Bremen, although the club will be without both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery due to injury.

Second-place Wolfsburg lost 1-0 at Augsburg last weekend and rebounded to win 3-1 against Inter Milan in the Europa League on Thursday. The team will now look to follow up that victory with another against second-from-the-bottom Freiburg.

Monchengladbach is unbeaten in four games and hosts Hannover, while Augsburg continues its push for a place in Europe when the club hosts Mainz.

Paderborn is two points from safety and visits Eintracht, Hamburg is just above the drop zone and invades Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund attempts to extend its unbeaten streak in league play to six games when the team hosts Cologne.
