New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Cleveland Indians infielder and designated hitter Carlos Santana was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday.
Santana batted .556 (15-for-27) with three doubles, six homers and 10 RBI on his way to his first career Player of the Week honor and second straight for the Indians -- Jason Kipnis won the award last week.
Santana led all hitters in batting average, homers, hits, runs scored (8), total bases (36) and slugging percentage (1.333) for the week
The 28-year-old slugger became the first player this season to hit five home runs in a single series when the Indians lost three out of four games to the Kansas City Royals to end the week.
Houston's Jose Altuve, Oakland's Yoenis Cespedes, Chris Sale of the White Sox, Boston's David Ortiz and Zach Britton of the Orioles were all considered for the award.
