Mark Sanchez was mostly mistake-free in perhaps his best practice of training camp for the New York Jets, while rookie Geno Smith threw two interceptions in drills.

The competition between the two for the starting quarterback job remains tight, and coach Rex Ryan is not sure who will start the preseason opener at Detroit on Friday night. Ryan adds that both Sanchez and Smith will work with the first-team offense during the game.

Sanchez, who had a lousy performance in the team's scrimmage Saturday, threw a touchdown pass and wasn't intercepted Monday. Ryan, unhappy with the team's overall "sloppy" performance, says Sanchez was "the one guy who showed up."

Smith has mostly avoided the types of mistakes he made Monday, and insisted it wasn't "a setback."
