STATESBORO, Ga. – Josh Davis scored 13 points and Gregg Wooten had all 12 of his points in the second half to lead Samford over Georgia Southern 58-50 on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (12-12, 4-8 Southern Conference) led 33-31 with 11:52 to play before going on a 13-4 run. Davis' 3-pointer capped the spurt giving Samford its biggest lead, 46-35, with 7:16 to play. Wooten, who was 6 of 7 from the field in the second half, had six points during the run.
The Bulldogs led 23-22 at halftime, and shot 57.1 percent in the second half (12 of 21). They snapped a four-game road losing skid, and won for the first time in three games.
Samford, the Southern Conference's No. 2 defensive team (65.6 points per game coming in), forced 18 turnovers while committing 11, including just four in the second half.
Ben Drayton scored 16 points for the Eagles (4-21, 0-12), who lost their 12th straight.
