Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Buffalo Sabres forward Ville Leino is out indefinitely with cracked ribs he sustained in the team's season-opening loss in Detroit on Wednesday.
Leino signed a six-year, $27-million contract with Buffalo in July of 2011 after a stellar 2010-2011 campaign with the Philadelphia Flyers, in which he posted 53 points on 19 goals and 34 assists.
Since joining Buffalo, Leino has endured a statistical drop-off. He accrued only 25 points in 71 games during his first season with the team, then appeared in only eight games this past campaign due to a lingering hip injury.
