Lille, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Nolan Roux scored early in stoppage time at the Grand Stade Lille Metropole on Tuesday to lead Lille to a 1-0 defeat of Marseille.
Lille controlled much of the match but was unable to break the scoreless deadlock, even when Roux was denied a penalty early in the second half from Steve Mandanda's missed attempt to play the ball at the top of the area, which denied the 25-year-old a chance at goal.
But Roux ultimately had the last laugh as he struck at the death by getting on the end of a cross from Florent Balmont and guiding the delivery past Mandanda at the far post.
The win sees Lille improve to 36 points on the season to bring the club to within two points of first-place PSG ahead of its match at Evian on Wednesday.
Monaco kept pace with Lille in the race to challenge PSG at the top of the table as the club ran out to a convincing 3-0 win at Nice on Tuesday. James Rodriguez and Emmanuel Riviere netted first-half goals for the visitors while Lucas Ocampos tacked on a late goal for good measure.
Also in Ligue 1 action on Tuesday, Nantes came from behind in a 2-1 win over Valenciennes thanks to second-half strikes from Alejandro Bedoya and Fernando Aristeguieta.
