Roger Penske explores possibility of opening auto racing museum in downtown Detroit

Auto racing team owner and businessman Roger Penske says he's exploring opening an auto racing museum in downtown Detroit.

Penske tells the Detroit Free Press ( ) that "being able to have something downtown might very interesting." He says it's "on the radar."

Penske says a decision is possible in the coming months.

Penske's business interests include his Team Penske racing operation and the Penske Automotive Group. He's a big booster of Detroit, including efforts to build a light rail line that's under construction as well as the Grand Prix that takes place on Detroit's Belle Isle.

Penske has a Penske Racing Museum with race cars, trophies and memorabilia, located in an automotive dealership mall in Arizona.
