Rockies send struggling OF Stubbs to minors

Denver, CO ( - The Colorado Rockies optioned struggling outfielder Drew Stubbs to Triple-A Albuquerque prior to Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Stubbs received the demotion after going 6-for-51 with 31 strikeouts in 24 games this season. Outfielder Brandon Barnes was recalled from Albuquerque to take the roster spot.

The 30-year-old Stubbs hit a career-best .289 in 132 games last season, his first in Colorado after previously playing for Cincinnati and Cleveland. He belted 22 homers with the Reds in 2010 and had 30 stolen bases that season, the first of three straight he swiped 30 or more.

Barnes owns a career .242 average with 17 homers over 311 major league games with the Rockies and Houston. The 29-year-old was hitting just .205 with five homers and 12 RBI in 33 games with the Isotopes, however.
