Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Colorado Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau was placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list prior to Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Morneau sat out the first two games of the Dodgers' series after exiting Colorado's 2-1 loss to the Angels on Wednesday when being shaken up while diving for a ball. The 2014 National League batting champion has been diagnosed with a cervical strain.
The 34-year-old Canadian has a history of concussions over the course of his career. Morneau missed large portions of both the 2010 and 2011 seasons while experiencing concussion symptoms while then with the Minnesota Twins.
After hitting .319 to top the NL a year ago, Morneau has posted a .290 average with three home runs and nine RBI in 27 games this season.
Infielder Rafael Ynoa was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Morneau's place on the active roster.
Ynoa, who hit .343 in 19 late-season games for Colorado in 2014, had just been optioned to the minors on Thursday. The switch-hitting utilityman batted .241 with three RBI in 19 games prior to the demotion.
