Thomas Robinson had an off shooting night but 54.
Robinson shot just 4-of-13 from the field, but had plenty of help from the Jayhawks' (4-2) supporting cast. Tyshawn Taylor chipped in 18 points, Travis Releford netted 11 and Jeff Withey added 10 for Kansas, which was coming off a loss to Duke in the Maui Invitational title game.
Pablo Bertone and Dennis Mavin each scored 17 points for the Owls (3-5), who shot just 32 percent from the floor and 8-of-19 from the foul line.
Florida Atlantic made four field goals in a five-possession span early on and jumped out to an unexpected 9-3 lead, but the Owls shot just 27 percent from the field the rest of the first half.
A 16-5 run, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers by Conner Teahan, moved the Jayhawks in front, 19-14, near the midway point.
Bertone stopped the run with a jumper, but only momentarily as Teahan hit another from long range on the next possession to ignite a 12-point run that made it a 13-point game.
Kansas led, 42-26, at the break and held a double-digit cushion the entire second half, with one sequence early on resulting in two blocks by the hosts that eventually turned into in a Robinson two-handed slam.
The difference was as close as 13 the rest of the way.
