Pittsburgh, PA – Latif Rivers and Wagner did something Friday night that no other Northeastern Conference team ever had.
They beat Pittsburgh.
Rivers scored 18 points, including two free throws with 5.9 seconds left to seal Wagner's 59-54 victory over No. 15 Pitt in the second shocker at Petersen Events Center in the last six weeks.
Kenneth Ortiz added 12 points and Tyler Murray had 10 for the Seahawks (8-3), who were Pitt's final non-conference opponent before the start of Big East play.
The Panthers, improbably, will go into Tuesday's game at Notre Dame coming off a loss. Pitt (11-2) had been 70-0 against NEC opponents before Friday's loss.
