Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Texans apparently aren't waiting for the season to end before starting their search for a new full-time head coach.
According to the Houston Chronicle, former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith met with Texans brass earlier this week.
The Texans fired Gary Kubiak on Dec. 6 and named Wade Phillips interim coach for the remainder of what has been a disastrous season. Expected to contend for a Super Bowl title this summer, the Texans opened 2-0 and haven't won since.
Smith, meanwhile, was fired after the Bears failed to reach the playoffs despite a 10-6 mark in 2012. He was 81-63 in nine seasons and guided the Bears to the Super Bowl after the 2006 campaign.
Phillips, according to the Chronicle, is expected to be among the candidates as a full-time replacement.
