Just because spring training is getting underway doesn't mean teams aren't active on the trade market.
According to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, the Toronto Blue Jays are close to acquiring Jay Bruce from the Cincinnati Reds:
Even more, Heyman has noted that it's a three-team swap, involving the Los Angeles Angels and Blue Jays outfielder Michael Saunders.
FOX Sports insider Ken Rosenthal reported that the path for the Jays to acquire Bruce is clear -- they're not on his no-trade list.
Bruce was a popular name on the hot stove last offseason, but his stock took somewhat of a hit after a subpar 2015 -- he hit .226/.294/.434 but still smashed 26 home runs.
Saunders was acquired by the Blue Jays prior to the 2015 season, but a spring training injury involving a sprinkler head caused him to miss the vast majority of the season. He owns a career .230/.301/.381 slash line across parts of seven seasons in the big leagues, but has been limited to just 87 games since 2014.
