BYU is reportedly out of the mix to join the Big East.
CBSSports.com cited college football industry sources as saying on Tuesday that BYU will not be joining due to the school's refusal to give up its television rights for its home football games.
No other school in the conference has the rights to televise its home football games.
BYU had left the Mountain West Conference last season and all sports at the school, aside from football, are currently playing for the West Coast Conference.
The Big East is looking for new members as West Virginia, Syracuse and Pittsburgh all announced that they were leaving the conference.
However, earlier in November the conference brought a breach of contract lawsuit against West Virginia to try and keep the school in the conference and announced it plans to do the same to Pittsburgh and Syracuse, which were accepted into the ACC.
Should those schools leave, Big East football would have just Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Rutgers, South Florida and West Virginia.
TCU was set to join the conference next year, but instead accepted an invitation to the Big 12.
Previous reports indicated that the Big East was sending invites to Boise State, Air Force, Navy and Central Florida. Three other schools -- Houston, SMU and Temple -- were also reported to be in the mix.
With BYU now out of the picture, it is being reported that the Big East will now court San Diego State to join as a football-only member.
