The Charlotte Bobcats have reportedly hired Steve Clifford as their sixth head coach in franchise history.

According to a report in the Charlotte Observer, the Bobcats have tabbed Clifford as their third head coach in as many seasons to replace Mike Dunlap, who was fired in April following a woeful 21-61 campaign.

Clifford has never served as a head coach in the NBA, but has worked as an assistant in New York, Houston, Orlando and Los Angeles, where he spent last season as the lead assistant on the Lakers' bench.

The 50-year-old Clifford worked under Jeff Van Gundy in Houston from 2003-2007 before joining Jeff's brother, Stan, in Orlando from 2007 through the end of the 2011-12 campaign.
