Ashburn, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden expects quarterback Colt McCoy to make his third consecutive start in Sunday's game against the New York Giants.
Gruden said Friday that McCoy was going to see a specialist in the afternoon about his sprained neck, but called the visit a formality the team was taking as a precaution before officially clearing him to play.
McCoy took all of the first-team reps in practice after being limited the previous two days.
"We just want to make 100 percent sure there's no risk of him doing damage to his neck," Gruden said. "Once he gets cleared there shouldn't be an issue."
Gruden said McCoy threw the ball well in practice and "didn't have any issues."
McCoy suffered the injury during Sunday's 24-0 loss to St. Louis, his second consecutive start since Robert Griffin III was benched.
The Redskins (3-10) haven't won a game since McCoy led them to an overtime victory in Dallas on Oct. 27.
Gruden put wide receiver DeSean Jackson's chances to play at "50-50" because of a shin injury that kept him out of Sunday's game. Jackson was limited in practice all week and was listed as questionable to play against the Giants.
Running back Roy Helu Jr. (toe), safety Brandon Meriweather (toe) and linebacker Keenan Robinson (knee) have been ruled out for the game.
