Reds' Ludwick placed on DL following surgery

The Cincinnati Reds have placed outfielder Ryan Ludwick on the 15-day disabled list.

Ludwick underwent surgery Wednesday morning to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder and is expected to miss at least three months. He suffered the injury while diving head-first into third base during the third inning of Monday's season opener, a 3-1, 13-inning loss to the Angels.

An integral part of Cincinnati's run to last season's National League Central title, Ludwick was re-signed to a two-year contract by the Reds over the winter and batted .275 with 26 home runs and 80 RBI over 125 games in 2012.

To fill his roster spot, the Reds selected the contract of outfielder Derrick Robinson from Triple-A Louisville.
