Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Cincinnati Reds pitcher Mat Latos had an arthroscopic procedure performed on his right elbow last week, the team's official site reported Wednesday.
Latos underwent the surgery, which involved the removal of bone chips, this past Friday and is fully expected to recover in time for the beginning of spring training.
The right-hander had been experiencing soreness in the elbow towards the end of the season, and was scratched in favor of Johnny Cueto for Cincinnati's 6-2 loss at Pittsburgh in the National League Wild Card Game on Oct. 1.
Latos compiled a 14-9 record along with a 3.16 earned run average and 187 strikeouts over 32 starts in 2013, tying a career best for victories in a season.
Since being acquired by the Reds in a trade with San Diego in December of 2011, Latos has put together a 28-11 record and a 3.32 ERA over 65 starts.
