Cincinnati, OH – Cincinnati Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto was put on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday due to a strained right shoulder.
Cueto was scheduled to start Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies.
The right-hander missed more than a month with a strained right oblique earlier in the season before returning to action on May 20.
Cueto turned in a dominating performance in his most recent outing, limiting Pittsburgh to just one hit over eight shutout innings in a 6-0 win over the Pirates last Friday.
The Reds recalled right-hander Pedro Villarreal from Triple-A Louisville to make his first major league start in Cueto's place.
Villarreal, 25, has posted a 1-3 record with a 5.03 earned run average in 11 starts with the Bats this season.
