Reds' Broxton heads back to DL
Cincinnati, OH – The Cincinnati Reds placed reliever Jonathan Broxton on the 15-day disabled list prior to Thursday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Reds also moved pitcher Johnny Cueto to the 60-day disabled list to open a roster spot for pitcher Nick Christiani, who was recalled from Triple-A Louisville.
Broxton (right flexor mass strain) gave up two runs -- one earned -- while failing to record an out in the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against Arizona. The appearance was his fifth since being activated on August 7 following almost two months on the DL with a strained right elbow.
The right-hander, who is expected to have surgery, was 2-2 with a 4.11 ERA in 34 games this season.
Christiani went 6-5 with a 4.05 ERA in 47 relief appearances with Louisville this year.
