CINCINNATI (Reuters) - The Cincinnati Reds, who are bidding for their first playoff appearance in 15 years, acquired former All-Star Jim Edmonds from the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.
The Reds also said they had sent outfielder Chris Dickerson, who has missed most of the season through injury, to the Brewers in exchange.
Cincinnati, winners of four straight and holding a two-game lead over St Louis in the National League Central Division, begin a three-game series against the Cardinals on Monday.
The 40-year-old Edmonds, a proven outfielder who was sidelined the previous campaign because of injury, batted .286 this season with eight home runs and 20 RBI.
