Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings recalled forward Stephen Weiss from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League on Thursday.
Weiss, who was limited to just 26 games last season for Detroit following hernia surgery, was sent down to the Griffins on Tuesday for a conditioning assignment.
The 31-year-old left Wednesday's contest against Rockford after two periods with a sore groin and will be evaluated further in Detroit.
Weiss has appeared in just one game for the Red Wings this season.
