Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings have activated Johan Franzen from injured reserve, with the veteran forward expected to play in Wednesday's game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Franzen has missed 22 of Detroit's last 23 games due to the effects of a concussion he initially sustained on Dec. 15. He briefly returned to action for a matchup against Florida on Jan. 26, but was placed back on IR after continuing to experience symptoms.
The 34-old Swede has been limited to just 31 games this season due to injuries, recording nine goals and 14 assists over that period.
Detroit will also have forward Pavel Datsyuk in the lineup for Wednesday's tilt. The three-time Selke Trophy recipient is still battling a knee injury, but was able to participate for his native Russia in the recent Winter Olympics.
