Red Sox place Hill on DL

The Boston Red Sox placed left-handed pitcher Rich Hill on the 15-day disabled list Sunday and recalled right-handed pitcher Mark Melancon from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Hill, 32, is 1-0 with a 2.63 ERA in 17 relief appearances for the Red Sox this year.

The 27-year-old Melancon struggled in four games with Boston earlier this year, allowing 11 earned runs in two innings pitched. He was 0-2 with a 49.50 ERA.
