Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Red Sox designated veteran relief pitcher Edward Mujica for assignment Friday.

Mujica went 1-1 with a 4.61 earned run average in 11 relief appearances this season. He allowed 15 hits and three walks and recorded eight strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings.

The 30-year-old has compiled a 22-24 record with a 3.79 ERA and 49 saves over 456 games in 10 seasons with the Indians, Padres, Marlins, Cardinals and Red Sox.

In a corresponding move, Boston recalled infielder Travis Shaw from Triple-A Pawtucket.
