Fort Myers, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Rays signed veteran left- handed reliever Jonny Venters to a two-year minor league deal on Wednesday.
Venters, who turns 30 later this month, has undergone Tommy John surgery three times in his professional career, including twice since he last pitched in the majors in 2012.
In three seasons with Atlanta, Venters made 230 appearances out of the Braves bullpen and was named an All-Star in 2011, when he led all pitchers with 85 games. He owns a 2.23 ERA and 258 strikeouts in 229 2/3 innings.
