NEW YORK (Reuters) - Tampa Bay Rays catcher Dioner Navarro has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount for inappropriate conduct, Major League Baseball said Tuesday.
The incident occurred during the sixth inning of the Rays' 6-5 home loss to the Toronto Blue Jays last Friday when Navarro made contact with home plate umpire Dan Bellino.
Unless Tampa Bay appeals the suspension Navarro will sit out Tuesday and Wednesday games against the Oakland Athletics, MLB said in a release. Navarro is hitting .136 with no home runs and two RBIs in 14 games this season.
