ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) First-round draft pick Shane Ray practiced Wednesday for the first time since injuring his right knee in Denver's overtime win at Cleveland on Oct. 18.

Ray was hurt when teammate Derek Wolfe shoved Browns right tackle Mitchell Schwartz into the back of his legs.

The Broncos (7-1) are short-handed on defense heading into their game this weekend against Kansas City (3-5). They'll be without star outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware (back) and Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib (suspension).

Ware reinjured his back Sunday at Indianapolis and Talib was banned for one game for poking tight end Dwayne Allen in his right eye in the closing minutes of Denver's 27-24 loss.
