Klaas-Jan Huntelaar went close in the 15th minute with a shot from the middle of the penalty area, while Raul also narrowly missed handing his team the lead in the first half.

Schalke had the better of the play over the first 60 minutes but didn't take the lead until the 64th when Raul redirected a free kick past goalkeeper Marc- Andre ter Stegen from six yards.

Following a loss to open the season, Schalke has won its last three games while Monchengladbach had earned seven points prior to Sunday's loss.

Hannover, Germany - Hannover is the only unbeaten team in the Bundesliga after a 1-1 draw with Mainz at the AWD Arena on Sunday.

Sami Allagui put Mainz ahead after just two minutes when he got on the other end of a through ball from Marcel Risse to beat goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

But Hannover responded midway through the opening half with a cross from Konstantin Rausch finding Mohammed Abdellaoue for a shot from the center of the penalty area that found the upper-right corner of the net.
