Rangers backup G Skapski undergoes hip surgery

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The story of the New York Rangers' injuries grew larger on Tuesday, as the club announced Mackenzie Skapski underwent hip surgery and is expected to be sidelined for 4-to-5 months.

The 20-year-old backstop had the arthroscopic procedure to repair a labral tear on his right side.

Skapski was called to the NHL for the first time in February, serving as the backup for Cam Talbot, when usual starter Henrik Lundqvist was sidelined with a neck issue.

He finished 2-0-0 with an 0.50 goals-against average and one shutout in that span, while posting a 2.40 GAA, three shutouts and amassing a 15-8-3 mark for Hartford in the AHL.
