Doha, Qatar – Qatar's coaching carousel continued Tuesday, as Brazilian Sebastiao Lazaroni was fired as national team manager after a brief spell in charge.
Lazaroni, 61, previously led Brazil at the 1990 World Cup, and was named coach of Qatar in August. Although Qatar has fared well in Asian qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, it struggled in the Arab Games.
Qatar tied Bahrain 2-2 and Iraq 0-0 in the Arab Games, which are being played in Qatar, and the results ultimately cost Lazaroni his job.
The country, which was named host of the 2022 World Cup last year, has fired three managers already this year. Bruno Metsu started the year as coach, but he was fired in February. Milovan Rajevac lasted seven months at the helm, but Lazaroni lasted just five.
Qatar has never qualified for a World Cup, but will earn an automatic berth in 2022 as hosts.
