The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim placed slugger Albert Pujols on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his left foot.

The move is retroactive to July 27.

Pujols left the club on Saturday, prior to a 3-1 Athletics victory, to have his nagging left foot injury evaluated. The 33-year-old first baseman has been hobbled by plantar fasciitis for most of the season, but up until now, it had been manageable.

Pujols is batting .258 with 17 homers and 64 RBI in 99 games this season, his second in southern California.

To fill the roster spot, the Halos recalled outfielder Kole Calhoun from Triple-A Salt Lake.
