The Portland Timbers announced Tuesday that the club has purchased the contract of midfielder and Designated Player Diego Valeri from Argentine club Lanus.

Valeri was originally acquired by the Timbers on loan from Lanus in January, but Portland's purchase means that Valeri's contract with the MLS outfit will be extended. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The 27-year-old has notched four goals and eight assists in his 20 appearances for the Timbers this season. Prior to joining the Timbers, Valeri enjoyed nine seasons with Lanus, recording 25 goals in 158 matches in the Argentine top flight.
