Portland piles more misery on FC Dallas

FC Dallas saw its winless run extended to 11 games on Saturday as it fell to the Portland Timbers in a 2-1 loss at Jeld-Wen Field.

The two sides combined to produce all three goals in the span of six first- half minutes.

Portland opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Ryan Johnson nodded home Diego Valeri's corner kick.

Dallas responded immediately when Fabian Castillo split the Timbers defense to release Mauro Diaz, who equalized by slipping a low shot past Donovan Ricketts.

But Portland would not be denied as Valeri claimed another assist by slotting a through ball into the path of Darlington Nagbe, allowing the Timbers striker to fire home what turned out to be the game-winner in the 33rd minute.

The Timbers improve to 38 points on the season to move within three points of first-place Real Salt Lake while FC Dallas remains outside the playoff picture in seventh place in the Western Conference on 33 points.
