Porter fans 9 as Cal tops Baylor to stay alive

Kyle Porter set career highs with nine strikeouts and 6 2-3 innings pitched to lead California to an 8-0 win over Baylor in the Houston Regional to stave off elimination Sunday night.

Chad Bunting homered twice for California (34-21), which will play Baylor (31-27) again Monday night for a spot in the super regionals.

Porter (5-0) didn't allow a hit through the first 4 2-3 innings before allowing a double to Landis Ware in the fifth. He finished with three hits allowed.

Bunting gave Cal a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the sixth, and his three-run homer in the eighth made it 5-0. The Golden Bears added three more runs in the eighth and sent 11 batters to the plate.
