HOUSTON – Kyle Porter set career highs with nine strikeouts and 6 2-3 innings pitched to lead California to an 8-0 win over Baylor in the Houston Regional to stave off elimination Sunday night.
Chad Bunting homered twice for California (34-21), which will play Baylor (31-27) again Monday night for a spot in the super regionals.
Porter (5-0) didn't allow a hit through the first 4 2-3 innings before allowing a double to Landis Ware in the fifth. He finished with three hits allowed.
Bunting gave Cal a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the sixth, and his three-run homer in the eighth made it 5-0. The Golden Bears added three more runs in the eighth and sent 11 batters to the plate.
Brooks Pinckard (5-3) allowed one run and six hits in six innings for Baylor.
