OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Plate umpire Ed Rapuano has left a game between the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics in the bottom of the sixth inning after taking a foul ball off his chin.

Rapuano was hit square in the chin Tuesday night on the second pitch from Boone Logan to Kevin Kouzmanoff, who later singled. Rapuano stayed in the game for Kurt Suzuki's home run, then walked off the field.

A's athletic trainer Steve Sayles followed Rapuano toward the umpires' locker room, and the teams cleared the field. Second base ump Ron Kulpa went inside to put on new gear, then moved behind the plate to replace Rapuano.

The game resumed with three umpires following a 13-minute delay.
